Rossi laments “stupid mistake” that cost Assen victory

Valentino Rossi was left to lament his own “stupid mistake” after crashing out of the lead of the Dutch TT, a race he was certain he could have won. The Yamaha rider had been leading the second part of a red-flagged Assen in wet conditions when he fell at Turn 10 on only the second lap of the 12-lap dash to the flag. “In the first part of the race I felt good, and in the second part I put the soft tyre on the rear and I felt even better,” recalled Rossi. “I tried to push, I had a good start, and I had a lot more grip.
