Alex Marquez cruised to pole position for the opening round of the 2018 Moto2 season
Marc VDS' Alex Marquez dominated qualifying in Qatar to claim the first pole of the 2018 Moto2 season ahead of Pons rider Lorenzo Baldassarri. Miguel Oliveira shot to the top of the timesheets in the opening minutes of qualifying on his Red Bull Ajo KTM, the Portuguese rider firing in a 2:01.693s, which he bettered on his next lap to a 2:01.200s. FP3 pacesetter Marquez deposed the KTM rider with 2:00.651s, the best lap of the weekend at that point, while Sam Lowes leaped up to third at the start of his first Moto2 qualifying session since 2016.
