Jorge Lorenzo beat Marc Marquez by just 0.019 seconds at the Italian Grand Prix, as polesitter Valentino Rossi retired with engine failure. Lorenzo jumped from fifth to first at the start of the race, with the two Yamaha riders battling closely at the front of the field. However, on home soil, Rossi’s challenge came to an end when he suffered an engine failure, with white smoke pouring from the back of his bike.
