Lorenzo takes MotoGP win at Mugello, Rossi retires with engine failure

Jorge Lorenzo beat Marc Marquez by just 0.019 seconds at the Italian Grand Prix, as polesitter Valentino Rossi retired with engine failure. Lorenzo jumped from fifth to first at the start of the race, with the two Yamaha riders battling closely at the front of the field. However, on home soil, Rossi’s challenge came to an end when he suffered an engine failure, with white smoke pouring from the back of his bike. Marquez remained close to the lead fight and moved up to second place due to Rossi’s retirement. He passed Lorenzo and took the lead mid-way through the race at Turn 4.
