MotoGP confirms new layout for 2017 Catalan Grand Prix

MotoGP organisers have confirmed they will use a new layout for the Catalan Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2017 following the tragic death of Moto2 rider Luis Salom earlier this year. The changes are aimed at slowing riders through sector three and will see MotoGP use the Formula 1 layout at Turn 10, whilst a new chicane will be added after Turn 13, but before the F1 chicane – though they are similar in design. The new layout is slightly shorter than before at 4,652m and work will begin in January. The race is due to be held on June 11 and is the seventh round of the 2017 season.
