Rossi grabs pole on home turf
Valentino Rossi was greeted with the loudest cheer of the afternoon as he grabbed pole position in front of his Italian fans at Mugello. As the sun baked down on Rossi's home circuit and temperatures soared, Ducati's Andrea Iannone set the early pace with a 1:46.727. He was joined on the provisional front row by Maverick Vinales and Marc Marquez. The Honda rider was just 0.032s down such was the level of competition. Jorge Lorenzo was fourth with Rossi P8 after the riders had completed their first run in Q2. Iannone upped his pace on his second run but was still beaten by Rossi.
