MotoGP introduces wireless tyre technology

– MotoGP officials have announced a tweak to the Technical Regulations for the 2017 season, which will allow immediate knowledge of the tyre compounds being used by riders.Sole tyre supplier Michelin and MotoGP manufacturers have collaborated to ensure that "a new system will be implemented that will enable automatic detection of the tyres that that riders are using.""This information [will be] available to all riders and teams as well as to the TV broadcasters."This step has been made possible courtesy of wireless technology, with the information fed to the unified ECU, and routed to the track timing system.Additionally, riders who secure progression through to...
