Rossi: Lack of bike progress contributed to Yamaha's defeat
Valentino Rossi reckons Yamaha's dip in form in the second half of the 2016 season was down to the team struggling to improve its YZR-M1 bike. Yamaha was heavily favoured heading into this year's campaign, but while Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo combined for five wins in the first seven races of the season, the marque has gone win-less since Catalunya. At Motegi, both Rossi and Lorenzo crashed out while chasing after Honda's Marc Marquez, who took victory and was crowned champion with three races to spare.
