Lorenzo blames “defective” tyre for losing pole

MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo claims his qualifying performance at Jerez was compromised by a “defective” rear tyre that caused him to pit to revert to his first bike. Lorenzo qualified second, 0.122s off Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi, but complained that he only got two attempts at a qualifying flyer rather than his planned three. “The bike was good,” he said of his second bike, “just we got a defective tyre, the Michelin, the tyre was chattering on the rear so we have to cancel the lap. “It's a pity, no, because three stints would be better than two. But finally – I didn't feel great with the soft tyre, I made the fastest lap possible – 38.8s is a good laptime....
