Jerez MotoGP: Lorenzo tops first practice as Barbera stars

Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo went fastest in the first practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix with a late flyer that deposed long-time leader Hector Barbera from the top of the timesheets. Avintia Ducati rider Barbera was the undisputed star of the 45-minute opening session at Jerez, the Spaniard going fastest early on with a best time of 1m41.130s. That was briefly topped by Marc Marquez, running a large pair of winglets on his Repsol Honda machine, who set a 1m40.944s before Barbera responded immediately with a time 0.008s quicker.
