CEV Moto3 Junior world champion and 2022 grand prix rookie Daniel Holgado has undergone surgery after a training accident.

The 16-year-old, looking to follow in the recent wheeltracks of Raul Fernandez and Pedro Acosta as Red Bull KTM Ajo's next rising star, suffered a 'multifragmentary fracture to the tibia of his left leg' on Wednesday morning.

Holgado was then operated on by Dr. Ignacio Ginebreda, Director of the Bone Reconstruction and Lengthening Unit at Barcelona's Hospital Universitari Dexeus on Thursday afternoon.

The surgery was deemed 'a success' and Holgado,  who took a best finish of 13th during three grand prix appearances last season, will begin 'recovery work in the next few weeks'.

The young Spaniard, team-mate to Jaume Masia in 2022, now has just under a month before the official Moto3 pre-season test, at Jerez, on February 22-24.

The Qatar season opener is then scheduled for March 4-6.
