Before heading back to Europe following the season-opening Qatar MotoGP rounds, representatives from Dorna and the FIM are due to visit Indonesia to check on the progress of the new Mandalika Street Circuit.

“This Monday, Dorna and FIM will fly directly from Qatar to carry out an inspection. They've seen the track using the (Drone), but they want to see it first-hand. So as a preparation for the homologation in June 2021, we must first carry out a pre-track inspection," said Mandalika Grand Prix Association representative Dyan Dilato.

The Indonesian venue, the only remaining official reserve circuit for the 2021 season, is aiming for official homologation in June and is said to be '55-60%' complete.

'The asphalting of the first layer will continue until March 2021. The asphalting of the second layer and the last layeris targeted for completion in May 2021,' wrote MGPA in its official release.

Once homologated, and subject to Covid travel restrictions, Mandalika would be available to step in should any of the scheduled rounds be postponed.

Such a scenario has already seen the previous reserve circuit, Portimao, join the calendar as round 3 (following a second race in Qatar) due to the postponement of Argentina and Austin.

While Dorna remains confident about the European events, a question mark still hangs over the end-of-season flyways in Japan, Thailand, Australia and Malaysia. Finland's KymiRing is also yet to be officially homologated.

Mandalika, which is set to host the first Indonesian Grand Prix since the mid-1990s, is also due to hold a World Superbike round in mid-November.
