Matteo Ferrari and Andrea Mantovani continued preparations for what will be the third MotoE World Cup season, with a three-day test at the Angel Nieto Circuit of Jerez de la Frontera.

The new Indonesian Gresini Racing team for 2021, sees inuagural series champion and 2020 runner-up Ferrari return for his third season with the team.

It is expected - although not a given that Ferrari will challenge for the title again, and the Italian showed promising signs - ending the test in third place behind Dominque Aegerter and Eric Granado.

Ferrari was not completely satisfied with the test, but said: "Today was not a lucky day: the second session was cancelled and the simulation didn’t happen due to an issue with the charger on the grid.

"This morning we had a good session: we tried the new tyres and the new front forks and we worked on the set-up. I need to make a step forward with my riding to be up there, but to be starting with a top-three finish is a good sign."

For team-mate Mantovani, the test provided an opportunity to get comfortable with the Energica Ego Corsa bike for the first time.

This season will be the 26 year-old's first experience of racing electric bikes in his career and finished only (+0.467s) behind Ferrari.

He did have a small crash - hurting his right foot, but Mantovani was able to get back on track and complete his testing programme. "We got better each and every day and improving by one second each time," said Mantovani. "

It’s a great challenge: it’s a new way to ride the bike but I felt immediately comfortable with both the bike and the team. I was expecting a more difficult bike when changing direction, but the balance is excellent. I’m really confident!."
