French MotoGP organisers eyeing new October date

Organisers for the French MotoGP event at Le Mans say they are in discussions to arrange a new October date for the suspended round.

The event was due to take place this weekend as the sixth round of the 2020 MotoGP World Championship but is currently one of four races to be postponed without a new date assigned to it.

Though France has initiated strict rules on holding sporting events until the end of summer, French MotoGP organisers are hopeful an improved situation in the Autumn will allow them to arrange new date.

As it stands, Dorna is busily drawing up a revised calendar for the 2020 season but has already stated it intends to kick off the season on July 19 in Jerez, followed by another round at the same venue a week later.

“As the organiser of the French round of the MotoGP™ World Championship, we’re working continuously to try to organise the 2020 Shark Helmets French Grand Prix in the first two weeks of October.

“The possibility is yet to be confirmed but in the coming weeks we hope for positive developments in the health situation, despite the uncertainty that hangs over highly-populated events with regards to respecting the regulations put in place by the government.”
