MotoGP Silverstone: Heavy rain forces race cancellation

Heavy rain has forced the cancellation of today’s MotoGP race at Silverstone. After a dry MotoGP warm-up, rain began to fall as the support classes were out and then got heavy just as the blue riband class went to the grid. All riders bar Jack Miller and Scott Redding said there was just too much standing water on the track and even the M5 safety car, with mile-wide tyres and all the traction control money can buy, was struggling to cope. The MotoGP race had been brought forward to 11am to try and avoid the worst of the forecast rain, but it arrived just in time to ensure that no action was forthcoming.
