Marquez overcomes adversity in pole thriller
Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez captured pole position for the Austin MotoGP in breath-taking style despite being forced to switch to his number two bike. The defending premier class world champion parked his RC213V on the start/finish straight after a warning light flashed up on the dashboard of the machine and the 22-year-old shut down the engine as a safety precaution. Marquez then sprinted along pit lane and jumped onto his spare bike, completing an out lap with seconds remaining before shattering his own record from 2014 by more than half a second to knock Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso off the top spot, lapping in 2m 02.135s after an all-action effort to take pole by 0.339s.
