Vinales says he needs to improve to match Marquez

Maverick Vinales says he still needs to improve his race-trim pace in order to be able to match Honda MotoGP rival Marc Marquez. Marquez topped the timed in the opening day of testing at Phillip Island, leading to Valentino Rossi saying the Spaniard is the "man to beat" ahead of the start of the 2017 season in Qatar. Yamaha rider Vinales, quickest in the previous test in Malaysia, finished the day in fourth, nearly half a second off Marquez's pace. While Vinales insisted he did not focus on setting fast laps during the day, the Spaniard did concede Marquez looks like the strongest rider over long runs.
