Sepang MotoGP test: Yamaha's Vinales grazes outright lap record

Monster Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales stuck in a late to top the second day of MotoGP testing at Sepang, deposing Ecstar Suzuki’s Alex Rins - who had taken top spot with only four minutes left to run - with a lap close to the outright record. Vinales, who yesterday said he needed several improvements to the 2019 M1, set a 1’58.897 which was only 0.067s slower than the circuit best which Jorge Lorenzo plumbed in last year on the Ducati. Rins had taken the lead with four minutes left to run, pushing Mission Winnow Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso - occasionally equipped with the new torque-arm experiment - into second place but the two were pushed further back by Vinales.
