Mir set for Suzuki MotoGP move as Honda option lapses

Honda's decision to allow its pre-contract with Joan Mir to lapse means the reigning Moto3 champion looks set to join Suzuki for his first MotoGP season in 2019. As Motorsport.com reported earlier this week, Honda held an option on Mir's services that would have, if activated, resulted in the Marc VDS Moto2 rider replacing Dani Pedrosa in the works team next year. However, this agreement expired on Thursday, and Honda chose not to exercise its option. Suzuki and Ducati were the other two manufacturers known to be interested in Mir, and Suzuki is now in the strongest position to sign the 20-year-old.
