Rookie Johann Zarco takes maiden MotoGP pole at Assen

Yamaha Tech 3's Johann Zarco stunned Assen to take his first MotoGP pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix, pipping three-time world champion Marc Marquez by just 0.065 seconds. Zarco becomes the first Frenchman to take pole since Olivier Jacque in 2002. He made the most of the damp conditions whilst some big names struggled, particularly Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo who starts 21st. Marquez had held the top spot as he crossed the start/finish straight before being beaten by Zarco, but will line up second ahead Pramac's Danilo Petrucci who also excelled in the tricky conditions.
