MotoGP drops penalty points system

– MotoGP organisers have scrapped the series' penalty points system.MotoGP introduced a penalty points system ahead of the 2013 campaign, in an attempt to improve the consistency of punishments handed out by the stewards.In 2015, the system led to Valentino Rossi being sent to the back of the grid for the Valencia finale, after his clash with Marc Márquez at Sepang took him up to four points.Any rider to collect 10 points over a 12-month period would be banned for a race.Given that the stewards also have the power to penalise riders at their own discretion, the Grand Prix Commission decided to axe the system at the recent Qatar Grand Prix."Taking into consideration that the...
